Planning Your Program

The Department of Modern Literatures and Cultures offers a major and minor in Russian Studies. Students majoring in Russian studies must complete a senior capstone experience in consultation with a Russian studies professor. After completing their COM2 requirements, students must complete at least nine courses in Russian language, literary and cultural studies and area studies at the 300 or 400 level. Independent study courses are also available.

The department also offers a combined major in Russian and English literature for students who wish to pursue in-depth work in both languages and literary traditions.

Russian minors must take five courses at the 300 level or higher. All students must have satisfied their COM2 general education language requirements before beginning 300 level coursework.

Students who are looking for additional ways to practice their Russian should consider becoming practice assistants or participating in the Language Across the Curriculum program.
